How will India deal with Trump’s tariffs? For the first time, Foreign Minister Jaishankar revealed his strategy

INTERNATIONALHow will India deal with Trump's tariffs? For the first time, Foreign Minister Jaishankar revealed his strategy

Donald Trump’s tariffs have created turmoil in economies around the world. Trump has also imposed a 26 percent tariff on India. On Wednesday, for the first time since the imposition of tariffs, the government gave its reaction to it.

India’s strategy to deal with tariffs is to conclude a bilateral trade deal with Washington by the end of this year, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said. This is the first time that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has given a detailed response to the US tariff policy. The Foreign Minister said that India is perhaps the only country to have a consensus with Washington

Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that I do not think it is possible to think about what effect it will have, because we do not know. What is our strategy? I think it is very clear. We decided that we will soon talk to the Trump administration on these issues. Both sides were extremely constructive. We agreed that we will try to negotiate a bilateral trade agreement by the end of this year.

According to the Foreign Minister, India was also negotiating a trade agreement in the first administration of Donald Trump. But these talks were not successful. In the Biden administration too, we discussed trade possibilities and reached the IPEL initiative. The aim was to enhance cooperation among like-minded countries in areas such as clean energy, supply-chain resilience and digital trade.
