Presidential elections were held in Ecuador. During this, Ecuador’s National Electoral Council on Sunday declared President Daniel Noboa the winner of the country’s presidential race Because during the vote counting he maintained a consistent and unexpected 12-point lead over leftist Luisa Gonzalez.
The conservative millionaire has an impeccable record in fighting crime. His outspoken law and order stance has helped Ecuador re-elect him to the top job. These results were in contrast to the first round in February, where Noboa had finished only 16,746 votes ahead of González.
“We inform the people of Ecuador that there is an irreversible trend in the second round of voting, with more than 90% of ballot boxes processed nationally,” Diana Atamant, head of the National Electoral Council, said in a statement to the press.
The winning couple are Daniel Noboa Ajin and (Vice-President-elect) María José Pinto. González expressed disbelief in the results in front of chanting supporters in Quito. “I refuse to believe that people would prefer lies to truth, violence to peace and unity,” González said.
