Amidst India-Pakistan tension, on the Army’s claim of installing air defence guns in the Sri Harimandir Sahib complex (Golden Temple), the Army on Tuesday clarified that no air defence guns were deployed in the Sri Harimandir Sahib complex.
Some media reports are being circulated regarding deployment of guns on the campus, which are baseless. In fact, this statement of the Army has come after the reaction of Additional Chief Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Giani Amarjit Singh, in which he had said that no permission was given to the Army to install air defense guns in the premises.
Chief Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh had also said that when the military operation was going on, he was on a foreign tour but at that time there was no discussion with him about installing air defence guns. In fact, Indian Army’s Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan had claimed a day earlier that air defense guns were installed in the Sri Harimandir Sahib complex with the permission of the Head Granthi. Regarding which, statements of Additional Chief Granthi Giani Amarjit Singh and Chief Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh came out on Tuesday.
Amarjit Singh said that in view of the recent instructions of the Amritsar district administration regarding the blackout in the city, the Sri Harmandir Sahib management had extended all cooperation and the outer and upper lights of the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex were kept off for the prescribed time.
SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami says that the government and the district administration had contacted them to switch off the lights during the blackout, on which we had fully cooperated considering it an administrative responsibility
