Airspace over Andaman Sea closed for two days, NOTAM issued

POLITICS & LAWSAirspace over Andaman Sea closed for two days, NOTAM issued

India has issued a NOTAM announcing the closure of airspace over the Andaman Sea. This has been issued only for certain specific areas. This NOTAM will be effective from 7 am to 10 am today, 23 May to 24 May.

This area is about 500 kilometers long and is banned for civilian aircraft at all altitude levels. Missile or weapon systems may be tested here. According to the recent Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Indian authorities, no civilian aircraft will be allowed to use the airspace at any altitude.

NOTAM stands for Notice to Airmen. This notice is issued to pilots to inform them about potential hazards so that no harm occurs during training. NOTAMs are filed with aviation authorities through communication. This is not the first time that NOTAM has been issued, NOTAMs have been issued several times before this.

A review of past NOTAMs issued for military exercises and weapons tests reveals that many of the notices were ambiguous. But the location and some details of this NOTAM can be interpreted as indicating a missile or weapon system test.
