The US has deployed nuclear weapons in Britain for the first time since 2008. According to defense analysts and open-source data, these nuclear weapons were transported on July 16 via a US military aircraft from the US nuclear weapons depot located at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico to an airbase in the British city of Lakenheath.
According to media reports, the C-17 aircraft was part of the US Air Force’s prime nuclear airlift force, which transports nuclear weapons from one place to another. Once it took off from a nuclear weapons depot in New Mexico, the military transport aircraft never flew over another country’s territory. The weapons delivered by this plane were probably the new B61-12 thermonuclear bombs. To keep them safe in Britain, a secure base was being built at Lakenheath for many years at a cost of millions of dollars.
The move increases the number of US tactical nuclear weapons in Europe for the first time since the Cold War. According to reports, American nuclear weapons three times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb were delivered to England last week. Decisions related to nuclear weapons are taken by President Donald Trump.
