BURIEN, Wash. — A large motorcade rolled through Kent this morning as 16 Washington law enforcement agencies escorted their “Chiefs for a Day” to the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien.

The annual Chief for a Day event, held Thursday, August 28, 2025, honors children with chronic or life-impacting medical conditions by swearing them in as honorary Chiefs and Sheriffs.

Families, community members, and media gathered for a day of celebration featuring a swearing-in ceremony, meet-and-greets with officers, police demonstrations, photos, and special presentations. Sgt. Jacobs and Officer Catalan of Kent Police assisted in today’s motorcade, which departed from ShoWare Center in Kent.

Organizers say the event is a reminder of community spirit, resilience, and the support law enforcement agencies provide to young people facing major health challenges.
