Kent resident Sharn Shoker is no stranger to community service. A lifelong Kent local and graduate of Kent schools, Shoker has spent her career advocating for youth, families, and small businesses. Now, she’s bringing that experience to the campaign trail as a candidate for Kent City Council Position 6.
As a mother, community advocate, and policy leader, Shoker has dedicated her life to ensuring Kent remains a safe, thriving place for families to grow. She holds a Master’s degree in Policy from the University of Washington and has led policy and advocacy work at the county level, where she focused on strengthening support systems for young people and families. Her leadership helped expand collaboration between local organizations and improve programs that serve those most in need.
Beyond her professional achievements, Shoker is deeply involved in Kent’s civic life. She serves on the administrative board of Khalsa Gurmat Center, where she helps organize community events, youth programs, and cultural celebrations that promote unity and engagement. She also serves on the board of the Randhawa Foundation, which supports local nonprofits and community initiatives. In addition, she is a proud member of the Kent Rotary Club and a frequent volunteer at local nonprofit and business events.
Shoker’s campaign focuses on supporting small businesses, improving public safety, and strengthening family-friendly resources throughout the city. She has proposed practical ideas such as streamlining business permits, expanding neighborhood safety programs, and promoting “Shop Kent First” initiatives to keep local dollars circulating within the community.
“Growing up here, I saw what makes Kent special — our diversity, our small businesses, our families,” said Shoker. “I’m running because I believe local government should reflect the community it serves, and I’ll show up every day to make sure Kent continues to be a place where families can thrive.”
With her fresh energy, deep roots, and proven track record, Sharn Shoker represents a new generation of leadership ready to shape Kent’s future.
