Los Angeles, CA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials announced the arrest of a convicted child sex abuser identified as Gabriel Gutierrez Varon, a Colombian national who was reportedly in the country illegally. According to ICE, the victim in the case was under 14 years old.
Authorities conducted the operation in California, where officers located and detained the individual as part of ongoing efforts to remove dangerous offenders from the community. ICE stated that the arrest was necessary to “protect kids in California” and ensure that individuals convicted of crimes against children are not allowed to remain in the United States.
Officials say the detainee will now undergo immigration proceedings following his criminal conviction.
ICE emphasized that targeting individuals who pose a threat to public safety remains a top priority for the agency.
