The National Weather Service in Seattle/Tacoma has issued a Flood Warning for parts of west central Washington, affecting King and Pierce counties, following the failure of the White River HESCO levee in Pacific.
Officials reported that flooding caused by the levee failure is imminent or already occurring in areas near the break along the White River. The warning remains in effect until 7:45 p.m. PST Tuesday, with continued flooding expected as response efforts are underway.
Authorities urged residents to avoid flooded roads, stressing the safety message “Turn around, don’t drown,” as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. People are also advised to stay away from riverbanks and culverts, which may become unstable and dangerous.
Emergency services continue to monitor the situation and encourage the public to follow official instructions and stay alert for further updates.
