Kent Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision on East Valley Highway

USAKent Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision on East Valley Highway

KENT, Wash. —

The Kent Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred Tuesday evening along East Valley Highway.

Police said officers were dispatched at approximately 5:24 p.m. on December 23 to the 18200 block of East Valley Highway after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Callers reported the victim was severely injured and unconscious.

Upon arrival, Kent patrol officers and firefighters immediately provided medical aid, including CPR. The pedestrian, identified as a 42-year-old Auburn man, was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

According to witness statements, the man was crossing East Valley Highway from east to west when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. Police noted the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old Auburn man, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. The vehicle involved was identified as a Volkswagen sedan. Initial findings indicate that alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

A second pedestrian who was crossing the roadway at the same time was not struck and was not injured.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.

Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Kent Police Department.
