Professor Mohammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, who is constantly taking steps against the interests of India, is now the target of the political parties as well as the Bangladesh Army. The reason is that Yunus has not yet been able to form a clear opinion about holding the upcoming general elections in Bangladesh.
On one hand, Bangladesh’s main political party BNB and the Islamic student leaders who played a key role in removing the democratic government of former PM Sheikh Hasina from power are demanding elections by the end of this year, while Yunus is talking about postponing it till next year.
Now Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman has also clearly demanded elections to be held by December 2025. The future of Yunus, the head of the caretaker government, who is completely isolated, seems to be in limbo. India has not commented on the internal situation there but is keeping a close eye on the entire situation.
On Thursday, Nahid Islam, the head of the newly formed political party National Citizen Party, met Yunus. After meeting Yunus, Islam said, “Professor Yunus is very upset. He believes that if he is unable to improve the system and conduct fair elections, he may have to leave this post. He feels that he is stuck between the growing aspirations of the common people and the demands coming from different political camps.
