Vote counting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections concluded on Friday, following a day of polling held under heightened security across DU campuses. This year’s election saw Aryan Maan from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), an organization aligned with the RSS, elected as DUSU president. He won the seat by defeating Jocelyn Nandita Chaudhary of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which is backed by the Congress party. Anjali, the candidate jointly fielded by the Left-affiliated AISA and SFI, finished third with 5,385 votes.
In the vice-presidential race, NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla emerged victorious with 29,339 votes, defeating ABVP’s Govind Tanwar, who received 20,547 votes. Sohan, the AISA-SFI alliance candidate for the same post, secured 4,163 votes.
The final voter turnout for the DUSU elections stood at nearly 40%, as per reports. Polling took place on Thursday in two sessions: a morning slot from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and an evening session from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm, accommodating students from both day and evening colleges.
After the results were declared, NSUI national president Varun Choudhary commended the student organization’s performance but also raised concerns, alleging that NSUI faced not just a political contest against ABVP, but also institutional resistance. He claimed the party was up against what he described as a “combined machinery” involving the Delhi University administration, Delhi government, central authorities, RSS-BJP networks, and Delhi Police.
Last year, in the 2024 DUSU elections, NSUI had made a strong comeback by winning the president’s post after seven years, along with the joint secretary’s position. ABVP, meanwhile, had maintained its presence with wins in the secretary and vice president roles. The 2025 results indicate a shift once again, with ABVP reclaiming dominance by winning three of the four major posts.
