USAGene Coulon Memorial Beach Park Closed Due to High Bacteria Levels

Renton, WA – The City of Renton and Public Health – Seattle & King County have announced the temporary closure of the swim area at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park after recent water quality tests revealed elevated bacteria levels.

Officials warn that entering the water could make people sick, as high bacteria counts may indicate the presence of fecal matter from humans, pets, or wildlife. Signs posted at the park advise visitors not to swim, wade, or enter the water until further notice.

The closure will remain in place until water quality improves. Additional sampling is scheduled for next week, at which point health officials will re-evaluate conditions.

“Right now, the water here could make you sick,” Public Health cautioned in its advisory. “Please stay out of the water and visit other safe swim beaches in the area.”

Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, located along the southeast shoreline of Lake Washington, remains open for other activities, but water access is closed until further notice.
