Seattle, August 26, 2025 — The new chancery premises of the Consulate General of India in Seattle were officially inaugurated today by India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra. The ceremony was attended by Washington Governor Bob Ferguson, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell.
Governor Ferguson hailed the consulate’s new premises as a landmark step in strengthening ties between India and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
Located in Seattle’s historic Federal Reserve Building at 1015 2nd Avenue, the chancery spans two floors — with the first floor dedicated to consular services and the 11th floor housing administrative and commercial offices. The building, listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since 2013, previously served as a Federal Reserve Bank branch.
The Seattle Consulate, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2023, began operations from a temporary office in November 2023 and launched full consular services in July 2024. Since then, it has served nearly 23,722 applicants across Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska.
The inaugural event also included interactions between Ambassador Kwatra, Indian American community leaders, local elected officials, and senior executives from the Greater Seattle tech industry.
