Israel has detained a Madeleine ship belonging to the Freedom Flotilla coalition heading to Gaza. Israeli commandos have stopped a humanitarian aid ship carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg and others to the Gaza Strip. There are 12 activists on board this ship, including Greta Thunberg.
Rima Hassan, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), who is one of the activists on board the British-flagged boat Madeleine, posted a photo of people wearing life jackets sitting with their hands up. Reema Hassan posted on X. She said, the crew of the Freedom Flotilla was arrested by Israeli forces in international waters at around 2 am.
The FFC, a coalition of humanitarian groups behind the operation, said on the Telegram app that the “connection on Madeleine had been lost”, and said the passengers had been abducted by Israeli forces. The ship, which sailed from Sicily, was intended to deliver aid and challenge the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza, which dates back to the Israel-Hamas war. The ship was prepared for the possibility of an Israeli attack.
The post accuses ‘Greta and others’ of attempting to provoke the media with the sole aim of gaining publicity and claims that substantial aid has arrived in Gaza over the past two weeks.
