Renton, WA — Renton police are alerting the public to a rise in jewelry thefts occurring across the city, with thieves targeting unsuspecting victims in parking lots and shopping areas.
According to the Renton Police Department, the thefts are most frequently happening at grocery stores, strip malls, and markets. Investigators say suspects, often one to two women, approach victims to distract them before snatching jewelry and fleeing the scene.
“Trust your instincts, stay aware, and if you feel unsafe—call 911,” the department urged in a recent public safety announcement.
Police recommend community members remain alert in public spaces, especially while loading groceries or walking to and from vehicles. Authorities are also encouraging anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to report it immediately.
