KENT, WA — The City of Kent is reminding drivers to slow down, choose their lane early, and follow proper safety rules when approaching the city’s spiral roundabouts. The announcement, shared in coordination with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), aims to help motorists confidently and safely navigate these increasingly common intersections.
City officials emphasize that roundabouts function like any other controlled intersection when drivers follow basic rules: reduce speed when approaching, select the correct lane ahead of time, and always yield to pedestrians, bicyclists in crosswalks, and traffic already circulating within the roundabout.
According to the city, drivers should enter roundabouts to the right and then exit at their intended street. WSDOT also provided a visual guide illustrating how to move through a spiral roundabout from both main and side streets, highlighting lane choices needed for either going straight or making turns.
Officials hope the reminder will reduce confusion and improve safety for all road users, particularly as roundabouts become more common throughout the region.
More detailed guidance is available on WSDOT’s website.
