People’s Democratic Party President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday. This is the first official meeting of the PDP chief with the Lieutenant Governor after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 and the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
During this, Mehbooba presented a five-point memorandum for the safe and honorable return of displaced Kashmiri Hindus to the valley. It proposes employment for Kashmiri Hindus, residential facilities, two reserved seats in the assembly elections and a summit to restore confidence among all communities.
He said that the displacement of Kashmiri Hindus has put a black mark on the forehead of Kashmiri Muslims, now this mark should be removed. In the meeting that lasted for about an hour, Mehbooba handed over a detailed document of the plan for the return of displaced Kashmiri Hindus to the Lieutenant Governor.
In this, he proposed amendments in the Prime Minister’s Special Rehabilitation Package, classifying different areas of the valley into different zones on the basis of terrorist threat, ensuring the safety of displaced Kashmiri Hindus and providing them jobs. Demanded to provide land for residential facility to every displaced Kashmiri Hindu family in their native district.
He said that this land should be given only to those who want to return permanently. For families whose original houses still exist but are in a dilapidated condition, he suggested grants or interest-free loans for their repairs. Later, while talking to reporters, Mehbooba said that she has requested the Lieutenant Governor to release all those Kashmiri prisoners on the occasion of Bakrid, who are not facing serious charges.
