SPORTS & BUSINESSRohit Sharma stand at Wankhede Stadium after Tendulkar-Gavaskar: Inaugurated by parents

A stand at the Wankhede Stadium has been named after Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma. This is the level-3 stand, which was earlier known as Divecha Pavilion. Rohit’s father Gurunath Sharma and mother Purnima Sharma inaugurated this stand on Friday.

On this occasion, Indian ODI team captain Rohit said- I had never thought of this even in my dreams. It is a special feeling for me to have my name among the great players of the game. Rohit was accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and National Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar.

Speaking at the inauguration of the stand, Rohit Sharma said, “What is happening is something I never imagined even in my dreams. As a child, I wanted to play for Mumbai and India.” For me, being named among the greats of the game is a feeling I can’t describe. It is also special because I am still playing. I have retired from two formats, but I am still playing one format.

Rohit further said- ‘It will be a special feeling when I play here against Delhi on the 21st in the IPL. Whenever I play here for India in the future, it will become even more special. I am grateful to receive this great honour in front of so many people, especially my family, my mother and father, my brother, his wife and my wife who are present here. I also thank my special team, Mumbai Indians.’
