INTERNATIONALSetback for US President, court stops Trump administration's decision on Harvard

A US federal judge on Friday stayed the Trump administration’s decision to revoke Harvard University’s eligibility to admit foreign students. This temporary decision has brought immediate relief to thousands of foreign students, including Indians.

Hearing Harvard’s appeal, Judge Alison Berouz stayed the administration’s order, citing constitutional violations. The Trump administration can appeal against this decision. Earlier on Thursday, the Trump administration, in an unprecedented move, revoked Harvard’s eligibility to admit foreign students. The administration had informed the university that it had taken this step as part of an ongoing investigation into the university by the Department of Homeland Security.

This decision threatens to affect thousands of foreign students, including Indians. Harvard University on Friday filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in a federal court in Boston and said that the government’s action violates the First Amendment.
