A ceasefire was finally declared on the conflict that was going on for the last five days between Thailand and Cambodia. Amid international efforts to end the conflict, Thai and Cambodian leaders held talks in Malaysia, hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. “An immediate and unconditional ceasefire will come into effect from midnight tonight,” Anwar said at a press conference with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia.
Anwar proposed ceasefire talks on Thursday, shortly after the long-running border dispute spiraled into a conflict. China and the United States have also offered to assist in the talks. Hun Manet said, “Today our meeting was very good and its results were also good. Due to which it is hoped that this fighting, which has caused the death of many people, will stop immediately.” Many people have been injured and many people have been displaced.” He praised the efforts of the United States and China for participating in this process.
On the other hand, acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Vechayachai said that Thailand has agreed to a ceasefire which will be successfully implemented with goodwill from both sides. US President Donald Trump called the two leaders last week, urging them to resolve their differences and warning them he would not do a business deal with them unless they ended the fight.
