The heavy rain continuing for the last 24 hours in Mandi district of Himachal has completely disrupted life. Landslides and floods are being reported across the district. The most serious situation is of Kiratpur Manali four lane, which has been completely closed due to landslides at three different places between Pandoh to Takoli section. The debris is still falling at these places, due to which the traffic is completely halted.
The 840 metre long elevated bridge of the Pandoh-Takoli section located near Larji Power House has also been damaged. The falling of a heavy rock on the bridge caused the deck slab to shift about 15 centimetres towards the river, rendering the entire structure unstable. Repair work will be started only after the heavy rain stops. Meanwhile, according to the latest report of the Public Works Department, a total of 261 roads in Mandi district have been closed.
Most of the roads were blocked in Dharmpur mandal (60), Sarkaghat (36), Thalout (34), Karsog (32), and Seraj (32).Apart from this, many roads are blocked in Sundarnagar, Gohar, Mandi II, Jogendranagar, Padhar and Nerchowk divisions. Not only roads, the power supply system has also collapsed. A total of 1708 transformers have been affected in the district. Maximum 604 transformers are non functional in Gohar division, 365 in Karsog, 355 in Mandi, 304 in Dharampur, 14 in Jogindernagar, 42 in Sarkaghat and 24 in Sundernagar.
The administration has said that until the rain stops, it will be risky to start restoration work in the landslide areas.
