Due to the negligence of some engineers of the Water Resources Department, embankments built on rivers in South Bihar have broken at many places. However, they are being repaired. Meanwhile, one executive engineer and six junior engineers for negligence in their duties have been suspended with immediate effect.
Departmental action has been initiated against them. Departmental minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary gave this information on Saturday. He said that the role of senior officials is being reviewed and appropriate action will be taken against them too.
However, two additional executive engineers and two assistant engineers have been deputed at the affected sites so that the repair work can be expedited. The embankments have broken at about a dozen places. However, the department is saying that their number is about half a dozen.
Chaudhary claimed that the repair of damaged embankments is being initiated with full promptness and seriousness. Senior officials are regularly inspecting the affected areas. The department is adopting a zero tolerance policy in cases of negligence.
In coordination with the district administration, departmental officers are inspecting the site and sensitive areas are being protected. Principal Secretary Santosh Kumar Mall said that it has been raining continuously in Jharkhand since June 18.
