An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 was felt in Chile and Argentina. Fortunately, no damage or casualties have been reported after the earthquake.
Chilean authorities have issued an alert for the entire coastal area of the Strait of Magellan in the far south of the country. Chile’s National Disaster Prevention and Response Service said in a message sent to the public
“Due to a tsunami alert, coastal areas of the Magallanes region are being ordered to evacuate to a safe area.” The message also requested that all beach areas in the Chilean Antarctic Territory be abandoned.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric wrote on X that all resources are available to deal with potential emergencies. “We are calling for the evacuation of the beach in the Magallanes region. Right now, our duty is to be prepared and obey the authorities,” Boric wrote.
