The first Neeraj Chopra Classic Javelin Throw to be held on 24 May has been cancelled. The organisers informed about this late on Friday evening. This decision has been taken in view of the current situation between India and Pakistan. The statement said that this step has been taken keeping in view the security.

The first Neeraj Chopra javelin throw event in Bengaluru will feature two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Thomas Rohler of Germany, silver medallist and 2015 world champion Julius Yego of Kenya, And America’s current world leader Curtis Thompson was to participate.

The organisers have said that the new date for Neeraj Chopra Classic will be announced soon. At present, the security of the country is the priority and everyone from the sports world stands with the Indian Army in this difficult time.

The NC Classic event was being organised jointly by Neeraj Chopra, JSW Sports, Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and World Athletics (WA). It was scheduled to be held at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Earlier it was to be held in Panchkula, Haryana, but the venue was changed due to problems with lights there.
