Heavy rain has delayed the return of IPL 2025 by a day. The match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday, May 17 was a draw, with both teams being awarded one point each. With this, defending champion Kolkata is out of the playoff race, while Bengaluru has come to the top of the points table of the current season.
The IPL was halted for a week amid India-Pakistan tension. After that, the remaining matches of the current season were to start from May 17. But, rain started at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday evening, which continued till late night. In such a situation, the match was cancelled.
Kohli was going to play his first match after retiring from Tests on May 12. Fans came wearing white jersey number 18 to pay tribute to him. One even got a tattoo of Virat Kohli on his body. RCB has come to the first position of the points table. The team has 17 points with 8 wins and one draw after 12 matches.
KKR’s team is in sixth place. The team has lost 6 out of 13 matches and 2 were inconclusive. The team can now reach only 14 points.
