Amid the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that there is nothing to worry about. Infections caused by the new Covid variants are generally mild. The government is monitoring Covid cases. People should remain cautious to prevent infection.
Meanwhile, the number of active cases of Covid in the country has reached 1,009. Of these, 430 cases have been found in Kerala, 209 in Maharashtra, 104 in Delhi. One person has died in Karnataka, two in Kerala and four in Maharashtra due to Covid. ICMR Director General Dr Rajiv Bahl said on Monday that genome sequencing of samples taken from West and South India has shown that the new variants are not serious.
The new variants include LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1. Samples taken from other parts of the country are being sequenced. New cases of Covid were first found in South and then West India. Now cases of Covid have started being found in North India.
