Eastern Railway, headquartered in Kolkata, has banned photography and videography at its stations in view of security. The authorities have urged all bloggers and YouTubers not to take detailed photographs or make videos of the stations under its jurisdiction in the interest of national security.
Eastern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Diptamay Dutta said officials concerned will step up surveillance and ensure no one can take detailed photographs of important stations. This appeal by Eastern Railway comes days after Haryana YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra was arrested for allegedly passing on sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence agents.
The CPRO said, “Restrictions on taking photographs or videos of station premises and platforms are in place. Now we have decided to increase surveillance with the emerging situations and security alerts across the country.” He said that some bloggers or YouTubers try to make videos of railway stations, which is very worrying.
