Women soldiers will no longer be trained in Israel, announcement of closing the pilot program

INTERNATIONALWomen soldiers will no longer be trained in Israel, announcement of closing the pilot program

A big news related to women soldiers is coming out in Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has ended a pilot program. It is being said that this is being done due to health and fitness concerns. The trained women were to serve in ‘combat units’ that would deliver equipment and supplies to infantry forces behind enemy lines and treat wounded soldiers.

According to a report in the Jerusalem Post, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir took the decision to close it on Thursday (May 29). According to the IDF, the performance of the women who went through the combat course was strong and on par with their male counterparts, but their ‘levels of physical and combat fitness fell below the standards required for the role’.

The new pilot program for female infantry recruits will begin next year after the current six-month plan is scrapped. In the meantime, women who have enrolled in the course will be offered other combat opportunities in the Army if they wish to continue Or if they want a change, they can go on office duty.
