The deportation of Afghan nationals living in Pakistan continues. The Home Ministry said that more than 200,000 Afghans have left Pakistan since the government intensified the deportation drive in April. More than 135,000 Afghan nationals left Pakistan in April, while the number stood at 67,000 in May. More than 3,000 Afghans have been deported in the first two days of June. Millions of Afghan nationals have been living in Pakistan for decades.
Thousands more Afghans have fled to Pakistan since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. The ministry said more than 1 million Afghans have returned to their homeland since the deportation program began in November 2023. It is estimated that about 3 million Afghan citizens are still living in Pakistan.
