In the South American country of Colombia, presidential candidate Miguel Uribe was shot during election campaign. He is undergoing treatment in the hospital. His condition remains critical. The incident happened on Saturday evening local time.

According to local media, Uribe was shot three times, one of which hit his head. Uribe was addressing a rally in the capital Bogota.

Colombia is due to hold presidential elections in 2026. Miguel Uribe is considered a leading contender for the presidency. 39-year-old Uribe is a member of the opposition Centro Democratico Conservative Party.

The party issued a statement saying that the attacker shot Uribe in the back while he was giving an address. Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan said that the attack took place in the Fontibon area of ​​the city. Hospitals across the city have been put on alert considering Uribe’s condition.
