After One Nation One Time, now the system of One Nation One Time is going to be implemented. To give a uniform, accurate and safe time to the entire country, the central government has taken a step towards ‘One Nation, One Time’. To have a standard time at the national level, the Government has drafted a bill mandating the use of Indian Standard Time on all official and commercial platforms.
The implementation process is in the final stage. Till now India’s time data is dependent on the satellite systems of America and other countries. Speaking at a conference on Time Dissemination in New Delhi on Wednesday, Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said Indian Standard Time will be made the sole official time for legal, administrative and commercial work in the country.
Soon, Indian Standard Time Rules-2025 will be implemented, after which any other time system will not be used. The minister said that the new time system will reduce dependence on foreign time sources (GPS). The country will be able to become digitally self-reliant in time determination. Cyber security system will be strengthened
Currently, the GPS-based time system is under US control, which affects confidentiality and self-reliance. For standard time, modern time labs have been built in five cities of the country namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Faridabad and Guwahati. These are being equipped with atomic clocks, Network Time Protocol (NTP) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP).
