WASHINGTON, D.C. — George Retes, a U.S. citizen and Iraq War veteran, has filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration following what he describes as an unlawful detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Retes, who served in the U.S. Army during the Iraq War, was reportedly detained by ICE officials for more than three days and placed in isolation without access to an attorney or a phone. His legal team argues that his detention was unconstitutional and violated his rights as a U.S. citizen.
According to Retes, the incident occurred during the Trump Administration’s heightened immigration enforcement efforts. His case has drawn national attention, with many Americans expressing outrage over the treatment of a U.S. military veteran by federal authorities.
“This should never happen to any American, especially not to someone who has risked his life for this country,” one supporter said online.
Advocacy groups have called for increased oversight of ICE and stronger protections to prevent wrongful detentions of citizens.
The lawsuit seeks damages and policy reforms to ensure similar incidents do not occur in the future.
