Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson voiced serious concerns over the Trump administration’s recent actions involving the deployment of the National Guard in several major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and its alleged plans to do the same in Portland and Chicago.
In a strongly worded statement released on social media, Governor Ferguson accused former President Donald Trump of taking authoritarian steps by overriding governors and mayors and even threatening to arrest them.
“Donald Trump is overriding governors and mayors — and threatening to arrest them — in an authoritarian effort to grab power,” Ferguson said in his post.
The governor revealed that his administration has been preparing for such a scenario in Washington state and urged residents to remain peaceful in their demonstrations.
“I ask the people of Washington state to join us in protecting our state by ensuring that demonstrations today are peaceful,” Ferguson said. “Thank you for carrying out your duty to make your voice heard.”
The comments come amid ongoing national tensions and protests, as debates over state versus federal authority escalate.
