Olympia, WA – October 28, 2025:Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson announced that the state is suing the Trump Administration for what he calls the illegal suspension of SNAP benefits — the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that provides food assistance to low-income individuals and families.
In his statement, Governor Ferguson said the move represents “political games” by President Trump and Congressional Republicans, claiming their actions are harming the most vulnerable residents of Washington.
“We’re fighting to protect the people of our state,” Ferguson said.
The lawsuit aims to restore access to critical food benefits that many Washington families rely on. SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, helps thousands across the state afford groceries amid ongoing economic challenges.
The Governor emphasized that Washington will continue defending its residents from policies that threaten food security and social welfare programs.
