KENT, Wash. — The City of Kent is urging residents to assemble emergency supply kits to ensure safety, health, and comfort in the event of a disaster or urgent situation.
City officials emphasized that emergencies can happen without warning, leaving little or no time to gather essential items. Whether residents need to shelter in place or evacuate quickly, having a ready-to-go kit can make a significant difference in staying safe.
In a recent message, the city outlined key items that every emergency kit should include, such as water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, first aid supplies, extra batteries, dust masks, and local maps. The list also recommends including plastic sheeting and duct tape for sheltering in place, moist towelettes and sanitation supplies, and essential documents. Cell phones with chargers and backup batteries are also strongly advised.
The announcement encourages families to prepare now rather than wait until a crisis occurs. “When you really need it, you can just grab and go,” the city noted.
Residents can find more detailed guidance at Ready.gov/kit or through the city’s shared resource link.
