The City of Renton is exploring ways to bring small-scale retail into residential neighborhoods, such as cafes, small eateries, bike shops, or neighborhood markets. The goal is to improve convenience, build community, support local businesses, and promote sustainability by reducing car trips.
This initiative builds on community feedback from past surveys, planning discussions, and citywide goals focused on creating a safe, vibrant, and healthy city.
City staff will use resident input to shape policy recommendations for the Planning Commission, covering topics like location, allowed uses, hours, signage, parking, and environmental standards.
The effort also aligns with broader state discussions. While recent bills (HB 2252 and HB 1175) to mandate neighborhood retail didn’t pass, cities like Seattle, Redmond, and Spokane are considering updates to encourage local retail options.
Residents can share feedback through surveys, emails, and upcoming community events. Input will help guide future decisions and shape proposals presented to the Planning Commission.
