After taking the throne of Delhi in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi put forward a proposal in the United Nations, which was also approved by the UN in 2015. 21st June was declared as International Yoga Day.
21st June was declared as International Yoga Day. Since then, International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June not only in India but all over the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed 21 yoga asanas with guests from 84 countries on Rajpath (now Kartavya Path). This event broke two Guinness World Records, first it was the largest yoga class and second it was the largest number of people from the largest number of countries who participated in it. PM Modi celebrated the second Yoga Day of his tenure at the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, in which more than 30,000 people participated. During this, PM Modi did breathing and stretching exercises.

PM Modi’s third Yoga Day was seen at Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan in Lucknow. During this, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also participated in the event. PM Modi celebrated the fourth Yoga Day in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. During this, more than 50,000 people did yoga with PM Modi.

After taking oath as Prime Minister for the second time in 2019, PM Modi celebrated Yoga Day at Prabhat Tara Ground in Ranchi. During this, more than 40,000 people participated in yoga with PM Modi. During the Corona pandemic, the entire world was put under lockdown. In such a situation, PM Modi did yoga while addressing the country through virtual medium. During the Corona period, PM Modi made people aware of the importance of yoga to fight the epidemic.

After the Corona period, PM Modi celebrated his first International Yoga Day at Mysore Palace in Karnataka. During this, 15,000 people did yoga with PM Modi. This Yoga Day was very special for the country, the theme of which was ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’. PM Modi did yoga with people from 135 countries at the United Nations headquarters, after which the name of this yoga session was included in the Guinness Book of World Records.
