Reigning world chess champion D Gukesh registered a sensational win over Hikaru Nakamura of the USA in the third round of the Norway Chess tournament. This win over world number-2 Hikaru gave him three points and he made a strong comeback after two consecutive defeats in the tournament. Gukesh is celebrating his 19th birthday today i.e. 29 May 2025.

Earlier, Gukesh had lost to Magnus Carlsen and Arjun Erigaisi in the first two rounds. With this win, Gukesh is currently at number 5 in the standings. America’s Fabiano Caruana is at the top. Gukesh will face Fabiano Caruana in the fourth round.

Gukesh lost to compatriot Arjun Erigaisi in the second round on Tuesday and dropped to the bottom of the standings at sixth place. Earlier, he had lost to five-time world champion and current world number-1 Magnus Carlsen in the first round.
