Seattle, WA — The National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle has issued an advisory for higher astronomical tides expected this week, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday, along Washington’s outer coast.
According to the NWS, the elevated tides, combined with incoming storm systems, could increase the risk of coastal flooding in several areas. The agency warns that these conditions may also contribute to compound flooding — caused by the combination of storm surge, river flooding, and heavy rain — and beach erosion, which can damage dunes, bluffs, roads, and trails.
Residents and visitors along Washington’s coastline are urged to stay alert and follow safety tips:
-
Never drive through flooded areas.
-
Keep a safe distance from the water.
-
Monitor tide and surf forecasts.
-
Follow official warnings and respect barriers.
-
Keep children and pets away from shorelines during high tide events.
The NWS advises the public to stay tuned for forecast updates as conditions may change throughout the week.
