Renton, WA — October 30, 2025:
As Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to an end, the Renton Police Department (RPD) is drawing attention to a lesser-known but deeply harmful form of abuse — the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
In a public statement, RPD emphasized that sharing private photos or videos without consent is not only a violation of privacy but also a form of control and emotional abuse that can severely impact victims, particularly within abusive relationships.
“When private photos or videos are shared without consent, it’s more than a violation of privacy — it’s a form of control and emotional harm that can deeply impact victims,” the department stated.
RPD is urging individuals to seek help and use available tools to remove such images online.

For those under 18, the department recommends takeitdown.org.
-
For individuals 18 and older, StopNCII.org offers free and anonymous services to help remove intimate images shared without permission.
The department reassured the public that help is available and encouraged victims to take back control. Additional resources and support information are available through the City of Renton’s website at rentonwa.gov/dv.
RPD’s message closes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a reminder that abuse is not always physical — it can also be digital, emotional, or psychological.
