The Indian cricket team played its first Test match on 25 June 1932. It has been 93 years since then and what had not happened in the history of Indian cricket till now has been achieved by the young Indian team captained by Shubman Gill at Headingley. The Indian team has gained the upper hand on the fourth day of the first Test match being played against England and has taken the lead beyond 300. The Indian batsmen have done a great job in this match.
With this, the batsmen of Gill’s young gang have done what even the best Indian team could not do. A total of five centuries came from the bats of Indian batsmen in this match. This is the first time that Indian team batsmen have scored five centuries in a Test match. This had never happened before. While Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill and Rishabh Pant scored centuries in the first innings, another century came from Pant’s bat in the second innings. Apart from him, opener KL Rahul also scored a century.
Pant made a flurry of records in this match. He has become the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in both innings of a Test match. With this, he is the second Indian batsman to do so in England. Before Pant, Mohammad Azharuddin had scored centuries in both innings of a Test in England. Pant is the second wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test. Before him, Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Andy Flower had scored centuries in both innings of a Test against South Africa in 2001.
