The Indian Army has got the first batch of indigenous suicide drone ‘Nagastra-1’ This unmanned drone (UAV) has been manufactured by Solar Industries of Nagpur. The company received the order to supply UAVs Nagastra to the Indian Army in the year 2023, beating competitors like Israel and Poland.
‘Nagastra-1’ has been designed and developed in collaboration with Economics Explosives Limited (EEL), a subsidiary of Nagpur-based Solar Industries, and Bangalore-based Z-Motion.

This drone has been placed in the category of Loitering Munition Weapons because it is capable of accurately targeting its target while hovering in the air. The most special thing about ‘Nagastra-1’ is that this drone can easily attack the enemy’s training camp or launch pad without endangering the lives of soldiers. Nagastra is a suicide drone.
Its way of working is quite different from a normal drone. Its special feature is that as soon as it finds its target, it crashes into it and destroys the target Nagastra-1 has a special ‘kamikaze mode’ and GPS system, through which it finds the target and destroys it by colliding with it.
According to media reports, ‘Nagastra-1’ weighs about 9 kg. It has been specially designed keeping in mind the convenience and operation of the Army. According to the report, Nagastra can fly up to a height of 4,500 meters.
