Now three days are left for the Chardham Yatra to begin in Uttarakhand and more than 21 lakh pilgrims have registered. The crowd of devotees is expected to throng from the first day of the Yatra i.e. 30th April.
Amidst all this, if we talk about the travel route and stops, the government has made efforts for the convenience of the pilgrims, but many challenges still remain. The biggest problem is the danger zone. The highways connecting the four Dhams are fine in most places, but there are more than 35 places where there are landslide or accident prone areas or the highway is narrow.
The second big problem is parking. Despite the construction of new parking, most of the vehicles of pilgrims will be parked on the road this time too. From the health point of view, apart from medical units, medical relief posts and screening points are being set up for the convenience of pilgrims. There are 16 landslide and accident prone areas on the 76 km long Gaurikund highway connecting Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag district.
Only five of these have been treated, at the remaining 11 places the travellers may have to face landslides and traffic jams. Parking has been made on the travel route
